Film Director Fabián Bielinsky, 47, Dies

Fabián Bielinsky, left, and Ricardo Darín

In very sad news today, Argentine film maker Fabián Bielinsky died of a heart attack in a Sao Paolo hotel today. Outside of Argentina, he was best known as the director of Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens), which was remade (because, of course, Americans won't read subtitles) into a terrible English version called Criminal, starring John C. Reilly and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Most recently, he came out with El Aura, a creepy, atmospheric, languid thriller (never knew thrillers could be languid?) staring Ricardo Darín, above, famous for his bruised-looking kisser and his one-time role as boyfriend of plastic surgery addict Susana Gimenez. Friend Ale Penovi worked with Bielinsky on that movie and sang his praises, so it's doubly sad all around.

Que tristeza. He was a good one.
