Jose Maria di Bello and Alex Freyre celebrate their wedding

Just a few weeks ago, Alex Freyre and Jose Maria di Bello were on track to have the first same-sex marriage in Latin America when a Buenos Aires court put the kibosh on their plans. But the second try was a charm, as the two married yesterday in the far southern city of Ushuaia. After governor Fabiana Ríos signed a decree authorizing the Civil Registry to marry them, the deed was done. The President of Argentina's National Institute Against Xenophobia and Racism (INADI), Claudio Morgado, was even a witness at the ceremony. As much as Argentina's politicians cause me pain, sometimes they do me proud.
