Updated April 2008

What I'm working on now (in Buenos Aires, Argentina):

The Leonor Hirsch Award

Since March 2008, I've taken on the role of Directora de Proyecto (or, Project Manager) for a new music competition to honor the late Leonor Hirsch. For the next several months I'll be working with the Bunge y Born Foundation to solicit works from composers and artists from all over the globe. More information in English and Spanish available at the Fundación Bunge y Born website.

Copywriting / preparing marketing materials

Since January 2006, I have written newsletters to promote content on LoMásTV—a website that features Spanish-language video clips and related language-learning tools. LoMásTV content draws from many countries' documentaries, TV shows, music videos and interviews. In each newsletter, I write a language lesson in English about something notable in the new video clips in Spanish. Sample newsletter here.

Working with the Jacobs Agency in Chicago, I wrote and edited a newsletter for the Federal Reserve Banks called FedFocus from March 2005 through November 2007) and prepared case studies for the Federal Reserve Banks and other clients.

Translating from Spanish to English

Since 2006, I've worked on some small projects in media and the arts, translating Spanish into flawless English.

Freelance journalism for magazines and websites

I've contributed to Gridskipper ("The Urban Travel Guide") and Monocle.com (a new venture from the founder of Wallpaper*). I'm also writing the occasional magazine article related to Buenos Aires. See Time Out Buenos Aires (the Summer / Autumn 2007 issue is not online—hence the uploaded JPEG files) and Student Traveler (co-written). There's more on my past journalism work below.

Personal essays

My contract work has left me some time to write personal essays that may (or may not) lead to publishable work. I'm primarily writing about three recent events:

§         The death of my younger brother (March 2005)

§         My move 5,500 miles south to Argentina (May 2005)

§         The birth of my son (September 2006)

Older writing samples (from when I was based in New York City, USA):

Modern Bride 2005 Trendsetters: Hans Xu (Modern Bride, June/July 2005)

Book review: The Good Men: A Novel of Heresy (Radcliffe Quarterly, Fall 2002)

The Story of Bubble Boy (SmartMoney.com, Aug. 2001, reprinted in the Wall Street Journal Sunday)

Panda Pad (New York Times Magazine, Dec. 2000)

How Sweet It Is (New York Times Magazine, Nov. 2000)

Free Love (Time Out New York, Mar. 1997)

I wrote hundreds of articles for SmartMoney.com, 1999 to 2003:

§         Google search: “Cintra Scott” on SmartMoney.com

§         Author search via SmartMoney.com
